Salary: 35,570 to 39,481 per annum pro rata Grade: IContract: Permanent Hours: 18.5 per weekLocation: Northallerton, North YorkshireNote – Covering Hambleton and Richmond, Scarborough, Whitby and RyedaleWe have an excellent opportunity for a ‘Habilitation Specialist ’ to join out our team within the Education and inclusion serviceAbout the serviceThe Education and Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schools and settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of children and young people with SEND. This role fits within our centrally managed services of the hearing and vision teams.About the RoleYou will be required to support children and young people (CYP) who have a vision impairment, improve their mobility and independence skills, through working with CYP with a vision impairment, training families and staff within settings, writing and implementing intervention plans.You will support the lead teacher by the development and delivery of provision for visually impaired children (V)I children and young people.Key elements:-· Support and advise schools, settings and parents/carers in the delivery of high quality intervention to enable children and young people experience the highest degree of autonomy and independent living skills, to become confident with their peers, and to be safe· Assess, target, plan, monitor and record children and young people’s progress in their mobility and independence· Quality assure the Habilitation and mobility work carried out by those working with vision impaired children and young people· Offer training to parents/carers, families, school staff and the child’s peers, to help them to learn more about the mobility and independent living challenges experienced by the child or young person with a vision impairment, and strategies to help alleviate these difficultiesYou should have an understanding of the needs of CYP with vision impairment and multi-sensory impairment along with a working knowledge of current legislation and regulation, in particular in Disability Discrimination, Care Standards and PlanningNote – we would be happy to accept applications from those willing to undertake the ‘Habilitation’ trainingIf you’re motivated, passionate and believe everyone should be given an opportunity, we’d like to hear from you, it’s time to make the change.
