Your experience, your impact, your career.The OpportunityAs an Independent Nuclear Safety Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting engineering teams delivering work for Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. Acting as an independent assessor and trusted advisor, you'll help ensure nuclear safety standards remain robust, effective and consistently applied as we support the journey towards An Electric Britain.EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and similar projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design-replication feasibility and related engineering activities.Alongside a salary range of between 70,000 to 80,000 per annum, this permanent role is based in #Bristol, with an expectation of spending 3 days per week in the office and the remaining days working from home. You'll primarily work at the Aztec West office, with occasional travel as required. We will also consider this role to be Part-Time working 4 days on a pro rata basis.This is an opportunity to influence senior stakeholders, strengthen Nuclear Safety Culture across the organisation, and contribute to the delivery of landmark nuclear projects. You'll work alongside highly experienced engineering, quality and safety professionals while developing your own expertise in a complex and highly regulated environment.Who You AreWe're looking for an Independent Nuclear Safety Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement, resilience, and the confidence to provide independent challenge. You'll be comfortable operating in complex environments, influencing senior stakeholders, and making difficult decisions where safety and regulatory compliance are paramount. To be shortlisted, you will need to demonstrate:An engineering or science degree (or equivalent), coupled with experience working within a highly regulated, safety-critical industry.Knowledge of nuclear safety codes, standards, best practices, and nuclear reactor design, operations, and safety principles.Experience applying nuclear safety principles and/or regulations to the review of nuclear facility design and operations.Proven ability to influence, persuade, and constructively challenge stakeholders at all levels, including managing difficult relationships and driving necessary change.Confidence and resilience in having challenging conversations, making tough decisions, and maintaining an independent viewpoint where safety or compliance concerns exist.Strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and fluent written and spoken English.To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.What You’ll Be DoingOwning and maintaining the Independent Nuclear Safety Oversight programme, including planning, delivery and reporting activitiesPerforming independent reviews of engineering deliverables across a range of nuclear systems and disciplinesAssessing organisational nuclear safety performance and identifying opportunities for improvementProviding independent challenge and advice within technical decision-making forumsDeveloping and promoting Nuclear Safety Culture initiatives, training and engagement activitiesPay, Benefits and CultureAlongside a salary range of between 70,000 to 80,000 per annum and potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed.
