WHAT TO EXPECT  Body Chassis Engineering is one of the larger teams within the Jaguar Land Rover Product Engineering organisation. The department has complete responsibility for the design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover BIW, Interior and Exterior & Chassis systems from concept design through to volume production. With an increasing emphasis on Systems Engineering and virtual development techniques, the department utilises advanced AVA CAD and CAE to support the product development process. A role within the Lids CoC involves working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, challenging functional and commercial targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business, as well as external component and system suppliers. The components that the team are specifically responsible for are bonnet assemblies, bonnet hinges, bonnet liners, front fender assemblies and fender baffle finishers. As a Lead Engineer, you would be expected to manage the development of one or more of these components from early concept, through production release and up to commencement of volume manufacture, depending upon programme content. The team also has responsibility for mechatronic charge port housings and associated electronic illumination modules, with future opportunities to diversify into these component areas. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Maintenance of and delivery against the commodity timing plan, ensuring all programme milestones are met.Work with Subject Matter Experts, CAD engineers and suppliers to develop CAD geometry which complies with all applicable requirements and standards, according to VEPS maturity guidelines.Issue resolution using industry leading problem-solving methodologies and the Automated Issue Management system (AIMS) in line with the programme metrics.Work with the commodity supplier(s) to meet the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) deliverables Work with cost engineering and purchasing to manage change requests and supplier quotation analysis in support of delivery of the programme cost targets.Liaise with suppliers and Jaguar Land Rover internal manufacturing functions, to ensure geometry is feasible for volume production and meets Engineering and Design requirementsKeep all commodity documentation up to date including:Agile task management and prioritisation (e.g. JIRA tickets)Programme specific DFMEA or DRBFM (Design Review Based on Failure Mode)RMDV (Requirement and Test Planning), including preparation and upload of reports and evidenceBill of MaterialsProduct Design Specifications (PDS) and Engineering Statement of Work (ESOW)Evidence Based Engineering Reviews (EBER)Organise and support regular Structured Engineering Reviews during the Virtual Series development phase with the department core team, to ensure system geometric compatibility and compliance with the Bill of Design (BoD / design specification).Completion of all Production Release Data Judgement activity (PRDJ) in support of P-Release: full tool production authorisation, using WERS / iCREATE utilities.Detailed planning of component validation activities through to component sign off (CSO) and support of the engineering laboratories team in resolving any rig/component setup or test issues.Support pre-production builds both within the UK and at overseas manufacturing locations (where applicable).Identification of root cause and corrective actions for component test/validation failures or build issues and implementation of appropriate engineering changes through WERS / iCREATE utilities.Ensure all CAD geometry, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T), is developed to the required standardsUndertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time. WHAT YOU NEED Knowledge, Skills and experience Essential: Experience in the design and product development of automotive exterior components and systems.A knowledge of volume component manufacturing processes.Ability to manipulate/visualise/interrogate CAD geometry.Experience of leading the resolution of technical and business issues within a project team environment.A practical understanding of Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification and Planning (DVP) in conjunction with experience of Forward Model Quality strategies.A knowledge of engineering commodity planning and change management processes.Experience in working cross functionally with other areas in a technical environment.Relevant Degree, or equivalent academic qualifications and experience Desirable: Experience of automotive sheet metal (B.I.W.) components and formability requirements.Application of the principles of pedestrian impact protection to exterior vehicle design.Experience in the use of Catia V5/TCE/Digibuck/3DExperience in product engineering.A knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and product dimensional control.An understanding of automotive manufacturing and construction processes, particularly relating to sheet metal components and mechanical assemblies.A knowledge of common automotive material characteristics and performance.Experience of OEM / supplier relationship management.Six Sigma Green Belt trained.Experience of working within an Agile organisation.
