Verification & Validation Lead – Physical Domain
Bristol based (hybrid working)
The OpportunityWe’re working with a leading defence organisation that is looking for an experienced Verification & Validation Lead to join a high-profile programme developing next-generation defence technology.The role will sit within the Physical Domain, with responsibility for coordinating verification and validation activities across the weapon system to ensure that the physical design meets defined system requirements, performance expectations and programme commitments.The RoleAs the V&V Lead – Physical Domain, you will work closely with the wider Weapons System team and a range of engineering disciplines to ensure that the physical design is appropriately verified, validated and certified throughout the development lifecycle.You’ll be responsible for coordinating physical certification activities across areas including:Environmental and EMC performance
Power utilisation
Storage and transportability
Physical design compliance
Verification evidence and certification
A key part of the position will be coordinating V&V work packages across both internal engineering teams and external suppliers, developing appropriate certification and verification strategies and ensuring that Design Verification Plans provide sufficient coverage of the relevant requirements.This is a technically focused role, so while you won’t necessarily need to be an expert in every subsystem, you will need a strong understanding of how complex engineering systems are designed, integrated and verified.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate physical-domain V&V activities and provide compliance statements and configuration management information for system-level review
Assess the impact of engineering and design changes on verification and certification activities
Develop and maintain verification strategies and ensure appropriate requirements coverage within Design Verification Plans
Manage requirements and verification information using Application Lifecycle Management tools
Lead technical progress meetings, supplier reviews and engineering milestone reviews
Coordinate activities across internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors
Support key stages of the engineering development lifecycle, including PDR, DDR and CDR
Monitor and manage the schedule, cost, quality and technical performance of assigned work packages
Identify technical risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
Lead design reconciliation activities following design changes and develop associated V&V approaches
Track defects and verification issues through to resolution, working closely with engineering and development teams
Support the development and maintenance of regulatory and compliance documentation, including CE marking activities
Contribute to technical publications and other supporting engineering documentation
Provide technical input to customer queries relating to product use, compliance and certification
Work collaboratively across a multidisciplinary engineering environment, engaging with systems, mechanical, electrical and software teams
What we're looking forWe’re keen to speak with engineers who have experience in systems engineering, verification & validation, hardware development or product certification within a complex engineering environment.You’ll ideally bring:A good understanding of systems engineering principles, processes and development lifecycles
Experience working with requirements at system, subsystem or component level
Knowledge of hardware design, development and integration
Experience developing or executing test and verification procedures
An understanding of how verification evidence is generated and used to demonstrate product compliance and support certification
Experience working within structured engineering development and design review processes
Strong technical problem-solving and risk management skills
Confidence communicating technical information to engineering teams, suppliers and customers
Experience producing technical reports and engineering documentation
Familiarity with configuration management and requirements management tools
Experience within defence, aerospace, complex electronics or other highly regulated engineering environments would be highly advantageous.Security RequirementsDue to the nature of the work, applicants will need to be British Citizens or Dual UK Nationals who hold British citizenship.
