About the role
SEND Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a caring, patient and committed SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities in our Leeds Schools. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusion and making a positive difference to children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND.
* Help pupils access learning by adapting activities under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo.
* Support pupils’ communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
* Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
* Assist with recording progress and sharing observations with teaching staff.
* Support personal care and medical needs where required and appropriate training has been provided.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
* Experience of working with children or young people, ideally within an educational setting.
* A good understanding of SEND and inclusive practice.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* A calm, flexible and positive approach.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent, are desirable.
Desirable Qualities
* Knowledge of EHCPs, autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or SEMH.
* Relevant Teaching Assistant or child development qualifications.
* Experience supporting pupils with personal care, sensory needs, or targeted interventions.
