Senior Lawyer / Solicitor

UHDB has a comprehensive in‑house legal team covering all aspects of legal advice. This senior lawyer will provide management and supervision to the team, advocate in complex inquests, and engage with governance processes within the organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of inquests and personal injury claims, including CNST, Employer's Liability and Public Liability claims.
- Assist the Director of Legal Services and Deputy Head with delivery of the legal services department.
- Meet internal and external requirements.
- Support staff in writing statements and other documents required for legal matters.
- Attend inquests and court hearings to represent the Trust and support witnesses.
- Undertake advocacy in court.
- Deliver training to Trust staff and presentations, and sit on committees and groups as required.
- Provide a wide range of advice on medico‑legal issues, including emergencies.
- Identify and amend Trust policies as required and on request.
- Address Regulation 28 Prevention of Future Deaths issues and take appropriate action.
- Collaborate with other Trust contacts and participate in governance processes.
- Act as a role model and provide professional, accountable leadership to the legal team.
Qualifications
- A qualified lawyer – Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister with relevant post‑qualification experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Advocacy training, including higher rights qualification.
Skills
- Experience of managing/supervising a team.
- Experience of reporting on themes, trends and performance.
- Knowledge of case management systems.
- Experience of leading a team of other lawyers.
- Experience of advising on a range of health law issues within the remit of the role.
- Ability to develop and provide trend analysis and good governance to support system development and improvement.

Salary
£57,528 – £64,750 a year pro rata.
