About the role

Dunbar Brown Group is delighted to be partnering with a long term exclusive customer to find an Engineering Technician to join their growing Edinburgh team. This person will need to be able to attend the office full time in Edinburgh city centre.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building, testing and debugging mechanical, electrical and robotic prototypes in our R&D lab
  • Diagnosing faults and leading root-cause analysis on test failures and quality issues
  • Operating and maintaining lab equipment — oscilloscopes, soldering stations, 3D printers, hand tools and more
  • Supporting the transition of R&D prototypes into scalable manufacturing processes
  • Documenting test results, build procedures and technical assets clearly and accurately
  • Assisting with sourcing and inventory management of R&D components and equipment
  • Collaborating with our cross-functional engineering teams, in UK and US


What We're Looking For


Essential

  • HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Mechatronics Engineering — or solid hands-on experience in lieu
  • 1-2 years in an R&D or manufacturing environment
  • Confident reading mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and assembly instructions
  • Strong practical skills in mechanical and/or electrical assembly
  • Sharp troubleshooting ability and a keen eye for detail
  • Comfortable fabricating and assembling components using workshop tools and 3D printing
  • A natural problem-solver — someone who thinks on their feet and finds a way


Desirable

  • Familiarity with robotics or automation, including sensors and motion control systems
  • Experience with pneumatic or mechanical actuation (grippers, actuators, etc.)
  • Proficiency in CAD software — SolidWorks, Siemens NX or Fusion 360
  • Working knowledge of electronics, wiring and UK electrical safety regulations
  • Ability to understand and execute structured test plans
  • Experience in regulated industries (medical devices, aerospace, food & beverage, etc.)
  • Basic programming or scripting skills — any language considered


The salary for the role is £35,000 per annum. xwzovoh
