SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist School in Shrewsbury Tara Professional Recruitment is currently recruiting Teaching Assistants to support a specialist SEN school in the Shrewsbury area throughout the 2026/27 academic year. This is a fantastic opportunity for a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work with children and young people with complex additional needs in a highly supportive specialist setting. The school provides personalised education and support for pupils with a range of needs, including complex and profound learning difficulties, autism, physical and mobility needs, communication difficulties and complex medical needs. The Role As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to support pupils with their learning, development, communication and independence. Every pupil is different, so the role requires someone who can adapt their approach and provide calm, consistent and individualised support. You may be supporting pupils with: * Autism and communication difficulties * Severe and profound learning difficulties * Complex and multiple SEND * Physical and mobility needs * Sensory needs * Complex medical needs * Personal care and independence skills * Social and emotional development The role can be incredibly rewarding, particularly for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with pupils and seeing the progress they make over time. We are looking for: * Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable * SEN experience is highly advantageous * Experience in care, support work, childcare or similar roles will also be considered * A patient, caring and nurturing approach * Excellent communication skills * The ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations * A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs * A good understanding of safeguarding * The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team * A commitment to helping pupils develop their confidence, communication and independence Most importantly, we are looking for people with the right attitude and values who genuinely want to make a difference.
