About the role

Position Overview

As an Engine Preparation Engineer at Finning (UK) Ltd you will possess outstanding customer focus and deep knowledge of diesel engines. You will carry out pre‑delivery inspections on new engines to customer specification using our engine preparation order, ensuring safety, timeliness and cost‑effectiveness. You will use modern dealer software, traditional preparation techniques, and fitment of 3rd‑party supplied parts, working on the Caterpillar range of engines.

Major Job Functions

  • Carry out pre‑delivery inspections on new engines to customer specification, including engine conversions, component removal and re‑installation.
  • Delete or dispatch components to specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate work‑plan documentation and liaise with the customer service team.
  • Identify parts required and communicate with the service control team.
  • Keep workshop and work area clean and orderly, complying with safety and contamination control guidelines.
  • Proactively identify improvements related to health and safety, facilities, and engine preparation processes.

What To Expect

  • Work in a small workshop team, responsible for completion of your own allocated engines.
  • Receive phone, laptop, diagnostic software and specialist tooling; you must have personal hand tools.
  • Travel to and from work by your own arrangements.
  • Experience continuous learning with a large product range.
  • Practical knowledge of tooling, rigging, slinging and jacking procedures; forklift licence desirable.

Qualifications

  • NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent in mechanical engineering, with demonstrable skills and experience working with industrial engines or plant and heavy vehicles.
  • Formal apprenticeship considered.
  • Workshop Technician, Mechanical Fitter or Diesel Fitter/Mechanic experience is desirable.
