PMLD Specialist Lecturer - Kingston
We are working alongside an Outstanding Specialist College (Ofsted, November 2019) in Kingston, offering life-changing learning opportunities to young people and adults with a wide range of special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Students at the college present with diverse and complex needs, including profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), communication and behavioural challenges, and specific medical requirements. Every learner is treated as an individual, with highly personalised programmes designed to support their aspirations, build confidence, and develop independence within their community.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and innovative Lecturer with a specialism in PMLD to join a dedicated and supportive team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, highly differentiated teaching that meets the complex needs of learners. You will play a key role in creating a stimulating and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to achieve meaningful outcomes.
You will be confident in assessing individual needs, planning and delivering tailored lessons, and using a range of communication strategies (such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory-based approaches) to maximise engagement. A strong commitment to tracking progress and celebrating even the smallest achievements is essential, as is a genuine passion for improving the lives of learners with complex needs.
Lessons are carefully structured to reflect students' interests, abilities, and EHCP outcomes, ensuring learning is purposeful, accessible, and motivating. You will also work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and support staff, to provide a holistic approach to education and care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching within designated curriculum area
Implement effective assessment strategies, including target setting, recording, reporting, and evaluation of progress
Ensure learning programmes are progressive and aligned with individual EHCP outcomes
Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adultsRequirements:
Hold or be working towards a Diploma in Education and Training (or equivalent)
Preferably hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience working with students with SEN, particularly PMLD
Understanding of specialist teaching strategies and communication methods
