Refuse & Recycling Chargehand - Refuse Class 2 Driver

Working as a Refuse & Recycling Chargehand (HGV Driver), you will be responsible for both driving Class 2 vehicles (Category C) and supervising a team of loaders to deliver efficient waste and recycling services. This is a hands-on role involving driving, loading, and team supervision within a public-facing environment. Key Responsibilities Drive HGV Class 2 / Category C vehicles on refuse and recycling routes Supervise and lead waste collection operatives / loaders Carry out domestic waste collection, trade waste collection, and recycling collections Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA, and highway regulations Complete daily vehicle checks, tachograph compliance, and route paperwork Collect general waste, recycling, garden waste, bulky items, and commercial waste Maintain a high level of customer service and public interaction Assist with manual handling, loading, and operational duties as requiredEssential Requirements (Keywords for Search Matching) HGV Class 2 Licence (Category C) Valid CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) Digital Tachograph Card Experience in refuse collection / waste management / recycling / street cleansing Previous experience as HGV Driver, LGV Driver, Dustcart Driver, RCV Driver, Bin Lorry Driver Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor role Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe systems of work Good team leadership / supervisory skills Excellent time management and route planning awareness Desirable Skills Experience working within a Local Authority / Council environment Knowledge of environmental services and recycling processesBenefits Full-time, stable Monday-Friday role (no weekends) Opportunity for long-term work and career progression Weekly pay via Blue Arrow Overtime opportunitiesApply today with your CV to be considered for this HGV Class 2 Refuse & Recycling Chargehand position, or contact Blue Arrow for more information.
