Curveball is looking for an experienced, hands-on HR Manager to create clear internal ownership of our people agenda. This is a practical, sleeves-rolled-up role: the HR Manager will personally handle the core HR administration as well as improving management capability, performance, culture, consistency and people processes.
The role
• Partner with the CEO, Executive Team and managers to turn business priorities and company values into a practical people plan and consistent management standards.
• Own the quality of recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance management, development, succession and retention processes.
• Coach managers through performance, attendance, conduct and employee-relations matters; use our specialist support providers for advice and ensure agreed actions are implemented consistently.
• Build useful people reporting covering headcount, recruitment, turnover, absence, probation, performance/development, training, engagement and material risks.
• Strengthen manager capability and accountability through practical coaching, tools, training and clear minimum standards.
• Own the internal HR operating model end to end: personally complete core HR administration, maintain effective disciplines, using specialist outsourced support providers to ensure accurate/timely people inputs into the outsourced payroll process.
About you
• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent professional HR qualification/experience; Level 7 is advantageous.
• Strong generalist HR experience, ideally in an SME or operational environment.
• Sound employee-relations knowledge and confidence working closely with managers and senior leaders.
• Evidence of improving performance management, recruitment, manager capability, engagement, culture or people processes.
• Comfortable using HR systems/data and practical KPIs and willing to personally complete routine HR administration as part of the role; experience coordinating payroll inputs is useful. A self-starting, curious and commercially aware approach is essential.
Why join Curveball
A new role with genuine scope to shape people management across the business, direct access to senior decision-makers and useful support already in place: Guardian Support for specialist advice, BreatheHR and outsourced payroll preparation. This is hands-on HR: routine administration sits with the HR Manager, not a separate admin layer. We envisage approximately three days per week, with regular on-site presence and flexibility around key employee matters.
How to apply
