About the role

Machine Tool Maintenance Engineer Location: Sheffield Salary: £48,000 + overtime + bonus + benefits Hours: Full-time If you’re the sort of engineer who is happiest with a machine stripped down in front of you, working out exactly what has failed and how to put it right, this one is worth a look. We’re recruiting for an experienced Machine Tool Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established heavy engineering and manufacturing site in Sheffield. This is a predominantly mechanical-biased maintenance role, although you will need enough electrical knowledge to fault-find and support breakdowns across a range of heavy machine tools and CNC equipment. You’ll be working on large, traditional engineering machinery, including older vertical boring and CNC machine tools, so we’re looking for somebody who is comfortable getting properly hands-on. What you’ll be doing You’ll be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across heavy machine tools and associated equipment, including: * Mechanical breakdown diagnosis and repair * Stripping down and rebuilding machinery * Bearings, gearboxes, shafts, spindles and drive systems * Hydraulics and lubrication systems * Mechanical alignment and machine rebuild work * Fault finding on motors, sensors, switches and basic electrical systems * Preventative maintenance and planned servicing * Supporting improvements and upgrades to existing machinery * Working on both traditional and CNC-controlled machine tools * Ensuring equipment is returned to production safely and efficiently What we’re looking for This role would suit somebody from a machine tool, heavy engineering, machining or industrial maintenance background. Ideally, you’ll bring: * Strong mechanical maintenance experience * Experience repairing and rebuilding heavy machinery * Knowledge of CNC or traditional machine tools * Experience with vertical borers, lathes, machining centres or similar equipment * Hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes and mechanical drive knowledge * Some electrical fault-finding capability * The confidence to strip machinery down, identify the problem and rebuild it correctly * A recognised engineering apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification Experience with Webster & Bennett machinery would be particularly interesting, although it isn’t essential if you have strong experience maintaining comparable heavy machine tools. You do not need to be a CNC programmer. This is very much about maintaining, repairing and keeping the machinery running. What’s on offer * £48,000 basic salary * Plenty of overtime available * Additional bonus * Benefits package * Long-term, stable engineering environment * Opportunity to work on substantial heavy engineering equipment rather than repetitive production-line maintenance Forward Assist Recruitment is operating as an employment agency.
