About the role
SHEQ Manager - Hazardous / Highly Regulated
West Midlands
£60,000 - £75,000 + Car / Car Allowance
Monday - Friday / Permanent
Are you an experienced SHEQ, HSE or SHE professional looking for a role where you can have a genuine influence on safety culture, process safety, and the strategic direction of a complex manufacturing site? We are recruiting a SHEQ Manager for an established, highly regulated chemical manufacturing business in the West Midlands.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SHEQ professional to join an established manufacturing business operating within a highly regulated environment. The position is weighted approximately 80% Safety, Health & Environmental and 20% Quality, with responsibility for both operational and process safety. You'll lead an established SHE and Quality function, with experienced people around you, giving you the opportunity to operate at a strategic level whilst still maintaining a strong understanding of day-to-day operational risks.
The environment is complex and highly regulated, with a varied range of manufacturing processes and associated hazards. As a result, this is a role where SHE is genuinely business-critical and where you'll have the opportunity to influence how risk is identified, communicated, and managed across the operation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the site's Safety, Health & Environmental strategy, and continuous improvement agenda
- Providing leadership across both occupational and process safety
- Ensuring compliance with relevant SHE legislation and regulatory requirements
- Developing and improving systems for risk assessment, incident prevention, and safe working practices
- Leading environmental compliance and improvement activity
- Working closely with operational and engineering teams to improve safety performance
- Supporting and developing an established SHEQ team
- Managing relationships with relevant external and regulatory bodies
- Providing SHE input into operational change, projects, and site improvements
- Maintaining appropriate Quality systems and standards as part of the wider SHEQ remit
- Developing KPIs, reporting and improvement plans for senior leadership
- Driving a positive, practical safety culture across the business
About you
We're looking for an experienced SHEQ / HSE professional who has worked within a complex, highly regulated manufacturing or process environment, with CoMAH experience. You'll need to be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational level, with the credibility to influence senior stakeholders whilst remaining visible and engaged with the wider operation.
Experience within chemical, process, pharmaceutical, oil & gas or another major-hazard manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant. Knowledge of areas such as process safety, hazardous substances, DSEAR/ATEX, CoMAH and environmental compliance would be advantageous.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can understand operational risk, challenge constructively and bring people with them when implementing improvements. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad SHEQ remit within an established business where safety and environmental performance are fundamental to the operation
