About the role
Learning Support Assistant – PRU – Hemel Hempstead
We are currently seeking strong, resilient, and dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Hemel Hempstead, starting as soon as possible. This is a full-time opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require additional behavioural and emotional support within a structured and supportive educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored support to teachers in delivering lessons and managing classroom activities.
* Work one-to-one or with small groups of pupils to support their learning, emotional regulation, and engagement.
* Build positive relationships with students who may display challenging behaviour or have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
* Support behaviour management strategies and help maintain a calm, safe, and productive learning environment.
* Assist in preparing and adapting learning materials to meet individual student needs.
* Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence, and personal development.
* Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
Requirements:
* A valid DBS check on the Update Service is preferred.
* Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs, SEMH, or within alternative provisions/PRUs is highly desirable.
* A calm, patient, and resilient approach with strong behaviour management skills.
* The ability to build rapport quickly and maintain professional boundaries.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* A flexible attitude and commitment to supporting students who may have faced barriers to education.
