Role Overview

Join our dedicated team as a Prison Mental Health Nurse and make a significant impact on the lives of individuals within the prison system. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to prisoners with mental health needs.


Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop personalised care plans for prisoners.



Provide ongoing support and therapeutic interventions to individuals with mental health conditions.



Collaborate with prison staff, healthcare professionals, and external agencies to ensure integrated care.



Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of mental health interventions and adjust care plans as necessary.



Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with NHS and prison service guidelines.



Participate in regular team meetings, case reviews, and clinical supervision.



Contribute to the development and implementation of mental health policies and procedures within the prison.



Required Qualifications and Experience



  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration.



Relevant experience in mental health nursing, preferably within a prison or secure setting.



Completion of NHS mandatory training.



Desirable Skills



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.



Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.



Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.



Empathy and a non-judgmental approach to patient care.



Experience in delivering cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or other therapeutic interventions.



Compliance Requirements



  • Enhanced DBS check.



Up-to-date immunisations as per NHS requirements.



Adherence to all NHS and prison service policies and procedures.
