Head of Design & Technology
Prospero Teaching is working with a well-established secondary school in Southampton who are seeking an experienced and inspirational Head of Design & Technology / Creative Subjects to join their leadership team from September 2026.This is a key leadership role within the secondary phase, offering the opportunity to take strategic ownership of the Creative curriculum, with oversight of Design Technology, Food Technology, Art, Drama, and Music. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping curriculum direction, driving high standards of teaching and learning, and ensuring strong progression for students across Key Stages
The Role:
Lead and manage the Creative curriculum across the secondary phaseHold specific subject leadership responsibility in Design Technology or Food TechnologyTeach high-quality lessons within your specialist subjectSet and deliver a clear strategic vision for Creative subjectsSupport, mentor, and develop colleagues within the departmentEnsure curriculum coherence and progression across Drama, Art, Music, DT, and FoodMonitor standards of teaching, assessment, and outcomes across Creative subjectsBalance classroom teaching with wider responsibilities as a Head of CurriculumContribute positively to the school's wider leadership and development priorities
The School Is Looking For:
A qualified teacher with QTS/QTLSA strong subject specialist in Design Technology or Food TechnologyProven experience teaching at secondary levelExperience in curriculum leadership or middle leadershipA highly organised professional who can manage multiple priorities effectivelySomeone who maintains high classroom expectations while leading strategicallyA collaborative leader who can inspire both students and staff
Contract Details:
Position: Head of Design & Technology / Creative Subjects (Secondary)Location: SouthamptonContract Type: Permanent, Full-TimeStart Date: September 2026Salary: UPS £47,472 - £51,048TLR: £4,305.60
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
QTS/QTLS requiredStrong secondary classroom experience essentialLeadership experience within a curriculum area desirableUp-to-date safeguarding training (can be provided)

Right to work in the UKEnhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)Two recent professional references
