The successful candidate will play an active role in supporting laboratory research, conducting experiments, and ensuring smooth day-to-day lab operations. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual who shares our values and is eager to learn, grow and adapt within a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.
We are not looking for someone who already has extensive industrial process-development experience. The role would suit a recent MSc graduate who has developed strong experimental skills during their studies and are is keen to build expertise in reaction and process development while working alongside experienced scientists and engineers.
Key responsibilities:
- Support and individually perform day-to-day research in a biotechnology and chemistry laboratories
- Set up, operate and monitor laboratory-scale reactor experiments according to agreed experimental plans and procedures.
- Support optimisation studies investigating the effects of reaction conditions, mixing, aeration, solids handling and reactor configuration on process performance.
- Monitor and accurately record key process parameters, observations and experimental outcomes.
- Collect, process and prepare samples for downstream processing.
- Perform routine analysis of experimental data and present results in a clear and structured format.
- Identify and report experimental abnormalities, equipment issues and unexpected process behaviour.
- Assist with equipment set-up, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, experimental protocols and process documentation.

Key experience and qualifications:
- MSc in Chemical engineering, Bioprocess engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment, with a solid understanding of standard operating procedures
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
Desirable experience:
- Experience working in a research laboratory
- Knowledge of safe chemical handling practices
- Practical experience handling multiphase or heterogeneous reactors
- Familiarity with HPLC-MS data analysis
