Design and Technology Teacher
Location: Darlington Contract: Full-timeStart Date: September 2026Salary: From £170 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Opportunity
We are delighted to be recruiting a passionate and driven Design and Technology Teacher to join a thriving and well-resourced D&T department at a highly regarded secondary school in Darlington. This role is ideal for both experienced practitioners and enthusiastic Early Career Teachers (ECTs) seeking a supportive and aspirational setting in which to grow professionally.
The successful candidate will deliver creative, engaging, and practical lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, encouraging innovation, problem-solving, and independent thinking. Ability to teach one or more Design and Technology specialisms—such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, Graphics, or Food Technology—would be highly advantageous.
Your Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver inspiring, practical, and differentiated lessons across KS3–KS4, including GCSE
- Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress, providing meaningful feedback to support achievement
- Contribute to the ongoing development of a high-quality Design & Technology curriculum
- Maintain high standards of behaviour, safety, and workshop practice at all times
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, CPD, and wider school initiatives
- Support students’ academic success, creativity, and personal development

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for Design & Technology
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- High expectations for students and a commitment to raising attainment
- Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with pupils and colleagues
- A reflective and committed professional with a desire for continuous improvement
