Are you a calm, professional and customer‑focused individual who thrives in a challenging and rewarding environment? Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a motivated Security Officer to help maintain the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff and Health Board assets.

Working Pattern

  • Saturday: 06:00 – 16:00
  • Sunday: 06:00 – 16:00

This role is ideal for someone seeking a consistent weekend working pattern while contributing to the safety and security of a busy hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

As a Security Officer, you will provide a highly visible uniformed presence across the hospital site, responding to incidents, conducting patrols, preventing crime and ensuring a safe environment for everyone. Working independently and as part of a dedicated team, you will play a vital role in protecting people and property while delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to security incidents, emergencies and alarms.
  • Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols across the hospital site.
  • Prevent, deter and investigate criminal activity and security breaches.
  • Support staff in managing challenging situations and conflict resolution.
  • Assist with fire alarm responses and emergency procedures.
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Work alongside Police, Fire and Ambulance Services when required.
  • Provide advice and support on security matters to staff and visitors.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Good basic education such as GCSE or equivalent.
  • Knowledge acquired through on‑the‑job training and experience (e.g. restraint, breakaway techniques, SITO qualification).

Desirable criteria

  • SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
  • Previous training in Control & Restraint and physical intervention skills.
  • Lift evacuation training.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in a front‑line security position with direct contact with clients or transferable experience from another front‑line role.
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous security experience.
  • Previous healthcare experience.
  • Previous knowledge of CCTV systems, fire alarms, Access Control – PAC, intruder alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of law and offences relating to the security industry.
