Connective Careers Pathways is recruiting on behalf of a children's residential care provider for a compassionate, reliable, and resilient Residential Care Practitioner. You will join a supportive team in a 2-bed children’s residential home in Walsall. This is an incredible opportunity for a dedicated individual with a background in residential care or youth work to make a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
The Role
As a Residential Care Practitioner, you will work closely with a senior co-worker to manage the daily routines of the home. You will provide empathetic, trauma-informed support to young people, helping them engage with education, life skills, and activities, while maintaining a clean, structured, and nurturing household.
Key responsibilities:
* Supporting young people with their daily living routines, hobbies, and personal development.
* Helping to maintain a warm, safe, and positive home environment.
* Managing challenging behaviour calmly using positive de-escalation techniques.
* Documenting accurate daily logs, report writing, and delivering clear shift handovers.
* Participating in regular team meetings and fully funded professional training modules.
Essential Requirements:
* Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Level 4 in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner, Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or a willingness to work towards this).
* Experience: Minimum of 1 year’s experience working with young people within a children’s residential care home or a professional youth work setting.
* Skills: Excellent communication skills, emotional resilience, and a patient approach.
* Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
Working Hours & Shift Patterns
* 56.5 hours per week, averaging 10 shifts per month.
* Structured around a 3-week rolling rota working alongside a Senior Practitioner.
* Shift Times: 07:30 to 22:30, plus an overnight sleep-in and a 30-minute handover the following morning (07:30–08:00).
* Monthly hours equate to 244.5, which includes shift work, team meetings, and training.
