About the role
Primary Teaching Assistants (SEMH)
Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting for experienced and passionate Teaching Assistants to join a dedicated Primary SEMH School in Southampton.
This specialist school provides high-quality education and support for primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, creating a nurturing and structured environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
As a successful candidate, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them overcome barriers to learning while promoting confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour. You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to provide a holistic approach to each pupil's development.
While previous experience within an SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting is advantageous, it is not essential. The school offers ongoing training and professional development.

Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Position: Primary Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Start Date: ASAP (Immediate start available)
Contract Type: Temp-To-Perm
Hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday
Pay Rate: From £14.96 per hourKey Responsibilities:
Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within the classroom
Assist with learning activities, engagement, and positive behaviour strategies
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation
Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies
Support pupils' emotional, social, and personal developmentCandidate Requirements:
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or in a similar role (SEMH experience desirable but not essential)
Passion for supporting children with behavioural, emotional, and additional learning needs
Proactive, resilient, and able to engage pupils effectively
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situationsTo be considered for this role, you must:
Have the Right to Work in the UK
Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply
