About the role
If you’re a senior IT support or infrastructure professional ready to move beyond day‑to‑day technical work and step into a leadership role, this is your chance.
You’ll lead a small, multi-skilled IT team, take ownership of infrastructure, applications, security, and vendor management, and become the organisation’s senior technical voice. It’s a hands-on role, but with real influence, strategic responsibility, and the opportunity to shape how IT operates.
Perfect for someone who’s been the “go‑to” technical expert and now wants to lead people, drive improvements, and own an IT function end‑to‑end.
What You’ll Lead & Deliver
*
Manage and develop a team of six across infrastructure, applications, integration, and reporting.
*
Oversee servers, networking, cloud services, end-user devices, backups, monitoring, and incident response.
*
Own documentation, risk management, and system reliability.
*
Guide application development, maintenance, and integration.
*
Lead information security, policies, controls, and compliance (UK GDPR, Cyber Essentials).
*
Manage vendors, contracts, licences, SLAs, and renewals.
*
Build and deliver an IT roadmap aligned to business goals.
*
Manage the IT budget and contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Who This Suits
*
Senior IT Support / 3rd Line / Infrastructure Engineers looking for their first leadership role.
*
Technical specialists who enjoy mentoring others and want more responsibility.
*
People who’ve been the “unofficial leader” and now want the title, ownership, and progression.
*
Hands-on engineers who want to stay technical but also influence strategy and direction.
What You’ll Bring
*
Strong technical grounding across infrastructure, networking, and business applications.
*
Experience supporting or guiding colleagues — even informally.
*
Confidence managing suppliers, contracts, and technical decisions.
*
Solid understanding of information security and UK GDPR.
*
Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical topics simply.
*
A proactive, organised approach to documentation, risk, and improvement.
Nice to Have
*
Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
*
Familiarity with ITIL or service management frameworks.
*
Exposure to professional services or operations-led environments.
*
Certifications (Microsoft, ITIL, CISSP, AWS).
*
Cyber Essentials experience.
