Health & Safety Manager - BESS & Substation Project Caerphilly, South Wales £300-£500 per day (DOE) paid CIS / LTD Long-Term Freelance Contract BMSL Group are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join an internationally recognised EPC contractor delivering complex energy, industrial and infrastructure projects across Europe and the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Substation project, playing a pivotal role in the safe delivery of critical energy infrastructure as the UK's power network continues to expand and modernise. Working alongside project leadership, construction teams and specialist subcontractors, you will lead all site health and safety activities, driving a positive safety culture and ensuring industry-leading standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities * Lead and manage all health and safety activities across the project. * Champion a proactive, behavioural-based safety culture throughout the workforce. * Ensure full compliance with UK HSE legislation, CDM Regulations and project-specific requirements. * Conduct site inspections, audits and safety reviews, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. * Review and approve Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permit-to-Work systems. * Support construction teams during high-risk activities including electrical installation, civil engineering works, lifting operations and commissioning. * Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventative actions. * Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings. * Liaise with clients, subcontractors and project stakeholders regarding HSEQ performance. * Monitor safety performance and provide regular reporting to senior project management. Requirements * Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager on construction, infrastructure, energy or utilities projects. * Previous exposure to BESS, substations, power generation, renewables, transmission & distribution or other major industrial projects is highly desirable. * NEBOSH Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma. * Membership of IOSH or a similar professional body. * Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. * Ability to engage site teams, influence behaviours and promote best practice at all levels. * Full UK driving licence.
