About the role
Location: Llansamlet, Swansea | Full-time | On-site leadership role | Competitive salary & benefits
Curveball is a Swansea-based multi-channel business spanning wholesale, e-commerce/retail, marketplaces, collectables and games publishing. We are looking for an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager to own the performance and continuous improvement of our warehouse operation. The role is currently at Llansamlet, Swansea and may relocate to another South Wales site in due course. This is a hands-on role covering people, service, site safety/compliance, cost and improvement.
The role
• Own the daily operating plan, service performance, labour deployment, priorities and escalation across the warehouse.
• Lead visibly from the floor: understand the operation first-hand, remove bottlenecks, challenge standards and support critical workflows when recovery or cover is needed.
• Lead the warehouse team, including recruitment, attendance, performance management, coaching, training, cross-training and succession/capability planning.
• Own productivity and controllable costs, improving labour efficiency, slotting, storage density, picking efficiency, process flow, overtime and agency dependency.
• Own site H&S/compliance, including facilities, MHE, racking, contractors, security and housekeeping, plus warehouse data/evidence for PPT, EPR and relevant PPWR reporting.
• Lead practical improvement in layout, systems, equipment and automation, and work with commercial teams to convert future demand into capacity, labour, skills and contingency plans.
About you
• Strong warehouse/distribution leadership experience with evidence of improving a comparable high-SKU or multi-channel operation.
• Hands-on leadership and confidence with senior management, plus practical transport/distribution awareness and enough operational depth to support key workflows when needed.
• Strong people-management experience, including coaching, performance/attendance management and building team capability.
• Strong ERP/WMS capability and confidence using operational data and KPIs to make decisions.
• Demonstrable process-improvement, productivity and structured problem-solving experience.
• Commercial understanding of labour, operating cost and budget control, with sound judgement about the trade-offs between speed, quality and control.
• Strong warehouse/site H&S knowledge. IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) is expected, or a commitment to achieve promptly; NEBOSH and practical PPT/EPR/PPWR exposure are advantageous.
• Curiosity about systems/automation plus evidence of capacity and schedule planning for peak demand. Business Central/HelmWMS experience is advantageous.
Why join Curveball
This is a high-autonomy role with direct access to senior management and genuine scope to shape the warehouse: its people, processes, systems, layout and use of technology. The brief is not simply to maintain the operation, but to make it measurably better.
