Principal Mechanical Engineer - Low Carbon Location: Remote with occasional visits to the office project meetings Team: Energy Transition Shape the future of low-carbon energy. We're looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our client's growing Energy Transition Team and play a leading role in delivering the next generation of low- and zero-carbon energy projects. About the Role As a senior member of a multidisciplinary engineering group, you will lead the development of mechanical designs across a diverse portfolio of energy projects - from early-stage concept work through to construction, operation and eventual decommissioning. The work spans: *Conventional power generation *Energy-from-waste facilities *Industrial energy systems *Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) *Future fuels and first-of-a-kind low-carbon technologies You'll collaborate with private developers, utilities, government bodies, lenders, EPC contractors and OEMs to deliver safe, efficient and innovative engineering solutions. What You'll Be Doing *Developing cost-effective, practical mechanical engineering solutions to complex problems *Working across all project stages: Feasibility, Concept, FEED, Value Engineering and Detailed Design *Producing mechanical deliverables including calculations, equipment specifications and datasheets for turbines, compressors, pumps, pressure vessels and heat exchangers *Collaborating with process engineers on PFDs and P&IDs *Supporting plant layout development and 3D model reviews *Working with equipment vendors and evaluating technical proposals *Providing engineering advice on plant integrity issues for operational assets *Contributing to mechanical discipline bids and wider multi-disciplinary proposals What We're Looking For *Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline *Chartered Engineer (or working towards IEng/CEng) with a relevant professional institute *Post-graduate experience in Power Generation or Oil & Gas *Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards for plant equipment and piping design *Experience in pressure vessel and piping design, including stress analysis *Familiarity with plant 3D modelling, working alongside designers and pipe stress engineers *Proficiency in MS Excel for schedules/datasheets and MathCAD for engineering calculations *Experience with operational thermal plant, troubleshooting and integrity assessments *Knowledge of gas turbine systems reciprocating engine experience is an advantage *Experience with OEMs, EPC contractors or similar organisations O&M experience highly desirable You'll be part of a team at the forefront of the energy transition, working on projects that push the boundaries of engineering innovation.
