Job Title: Director of Software Engineering
Location: City Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire - Hybrid (2 days onsite, 3 days remote)
Salary: £130,000 per annum + 20% bonus

Director of Software Engineering Responsibilities
- Set and execute the software engineering strategy across legacy and modern platforms
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of Backend and Frontend Engineering Managers and their engineers, cultivating a culture of innovation, openness, and agility.
- Drive the company's AI-enabled engineering initiatives, expanding how artificial intelligence tools are integrated into software development to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Oversee migration projects from legacy systems to scalable, distributed AWS cloud architectures, balancing ongoing legacy support with building new platforms.
- Define engineering standards, best practices, and ways of working that support rapid growth and long-term sustainability.
- Collaborate closely with C-level leadership, stakeholders, and product teams to ensure technological initiatives support overall business goals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring staff, and encouraging diversity and inclusion within the engineering teams.
Director of Engineering Requirements
- Proven experience in senior engineering leadership such as Director or equivalent roles, with a track record of scaling teams and delivering complex software projects.
- Experience in AI-driven software development, including practical application of AI tools to improve coding, testing, and delivery processes.
- In-depth knowledge of modern backend and frontend technologies: AWS, Node.js, TypeScript, React, with awareness of legacy stacks
- Hands-on understanding of distributed systems, platform migrations, and cloud-native architecture best practices (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong strategic thinking, with excellent communication skills capable of engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and lead engineering managers and high-level engineering talent.
