About the role

Your new company
A large public sector organisation is looking for an Application Support Lead on a permanent basis to act as a senior subject matter expert and technical leader within its Application Support team.

You will oversee the design, management and support of a diverse estate of around 80 applications and 60 services, spanning Windows, Linux/UNIX, Azure and SaaS platforms, from building management systems through to core teaching and learning services. You will take end-to-end ownership of these systems, set technical standards and deliver excellent operational support.

As well as hands-on technical delivery, you will deputise for the Application Support Manager when required and manage tasks on their behalf. The role combines technical analysis, business analysis and project management.

Your new role

Designing, integrating, administering and supporting enterprise, cloud, SaaS, hybrid and server-based applications
Managing application databases to ensure data integrity, resilience and high availability, including regular disaster recovery testing of critical systems with reporting to the audit committee
Leading business analysis and requirements gathering ahead of any tender or product purchase
Leading the onboarding of new applications from hosting architecture through to live production, support standards and staff training
Overseeing major incidents from a technical standpoint, coordinating resolver groups and stepping in hands-on when needed
Leading root cause analysis and continual service improvement
Maintaining awareness of cyber security threats and implementing technologies to strengthen the organisation's security posture
Developing best-practice policies, standards, procedures and guidelines
Leading project and change activity as part of wider IT and organisation-wide project teams
Coaching and mentoring team members to build overall capability

What you'll need to succeed

Extensive technical background across physical, virtualised, SaaS and hybrid application delivery, including Windows, UNIX/Linux and Azure
Hands-on database management experience, ideally across SQL Server, MySQL and MariaDB
Strong working knowledge of ITIL processes, including incident, problem and change management
Experience of delivering application support in a similarly sized, complex and diverse organisation
Experience of working with multiple support and resolver groups, and with third-party vendors
Working knowledge of cyber security processes and practices, and experience of working with Information Security and governance teams
The ability to act as a trusted advisor, communicating complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
The ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment

What you'll get in return

Salary of £48,337 to £57,666 depending on experience
42 days' annual leave including public holidays
Excellent public sector pension scheme
Flexible and hybrid working
Discounted local travel and retailer discounts
A fair, inclusive and supportive working environment
Career progression and development opportunities
