CNC Horizontal Borer
Location: Fife
Salary: £18.00 - £23.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday
Shifts: Various shift patterns available with an average uplift of Time + ¼ across all shift rates
About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced CNC Horizontal Borer to join our growing machining team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with experience operating large CNC machine tools and working to tight tolerances within a precision engineering environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting, programming, and operating CNC Horizontal Boring Machines, producing complex components to customer specifications while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Set, program, and operate CNC Horizontal Boring Machines.
- Manufacture precision-engineered components to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Programme and edit machining programs using Fanuc control systems.
- Operate machines equipped with live spindle tooling.
- Interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and machining specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting data, and machining methods.
- Conduct first-off, in-process, and final inspection of components.
- Work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
- Perform machine set-ups, tool changes, and offsets.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cycle time reductions.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health, safety, and quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the machine shop.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC Horizontal Boring Machines.
- Strong knowledge of Fanuc control systems.
- Experience working with live spindle tooling.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Competent in setting and editing CNC programs.
- Experience machining large and complex components.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good understanding of machining techniques, tooling, and inspection methods.
Desirable Skills
- Experience within heavy engineering, oil & gas, energy, defence, or aerospace sectors.
- Apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification.
- Experience using overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
