About The Role

We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join our dynamic mobile development team. In this role, you will be instrumental in enhancing and maintaining our Android banking application, ensuring it remains at the forefront of fintech innovation. You will work within cross‑functional teams to develop new features, improve existing functionalities, and optimise the overall user experience. The ideal candidate will be self‑driven, proactive, and passionate about delivering high‑quality, secure, and accessible mobile solutions. Reporting to and collaborating closely with our Mobile Lead Engineer, you will have the opportunity to make impactful decisions, contribute to the technical direction of our Android platform, and participate in a culture that values continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a solid background in Android development, with extensive experience in Kotlin and Java. A strong understanding of MVVM architecture, RxJava, dependency injection frameworks like Dagger, and persistence solutions such as Realm is essential. Experience with UI/UX design principles, accessibility standards, and security best practices is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of writing clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code, with familiarity in automated testing tools like Espresso and JUnit. Excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work effectively within a team are also important. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but relevant experience and a passion for fintech innovation are equally valued.

Responsibilities

As an Android Engineer at Starling Bank, your core responsibilities will include developing and maintaining features within our Android application, ensuring high standards of security, performance, and accessibility. You will participate in code reviews, contribute to the design and implementation of new functionalities, and collaborate with designers and backend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences. Your role will also involve writing comprehensive unit and UI tests to guarantee application stability and reliability. You will work closely with QA engineers to ensure quality assurance and participate in continuous integration and deployment processes. Additionally, you will stay up‑to‑date with industry trends and emerging technologies, providing insights and recommendations to improve our mobile platform. Ownership of your work from development through to deployment and maintenance will be vital, along with sharing knowledge and best practices with your colleagues to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
