About the role

Why Us?

When you join us as a Supervisor at The Entertainer, Newport Wales Austin Friars you will be a key member of the store’s management team and a role model for our Sales Assistants. You will support the Store Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the store, ensuring the team is focused and performing to their full potential, and demonstrate to your manager how you run the store independently during cover days and holidays.

You will have the opportunity to make a real difference with your colleagues, playing an important role in coaching and motivating the team to achieve their best, both in their personal development and in delivering exceptional store standards and customer service.

You need to be energetic, outgoing, keen and possess a natural flair for retailing. Ideally you will live within 30‑45 minutes of your store and be flexible to work the shift patterns required, especially during October to December. Weekend key‑holder cover is a basic requirement of this role.

With those demands come rewards, and this is the ideal position for anyone looking for the next step in their management career. You will learn all about the way we work with a comprehensive online training package and support. Your Entertainer career in management can take you anywhere you want it to!

As a 20‑hour Supervisor: your responsibilities will include

  • Opening and closing the store, including Sundays on a rota basis and running the store successfully in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Ensuring the smooth running of day‑to‑day operations and routines, including cash and till areas, dealing with customer refunds and till reconciliations.
  • Leading by example, demonstrating an exceptional customer‑service experience, and inspiring your team to do the same.
  • Implementing in‑store promotions, being commercial, and ensuring staff are motivated and well‑informed.
  • Actively participating in stock management, including stockroom standards, managing deliveries, merchandising, and minimising stock loss.

What we will need from you

  • Experience of managing or supervising a small team.
  • A flexible approach to working hours and a commitment to help us resource the store effectively.
  • Being tech‑savvy, showing confidence in using computers and tablets to complete tasks and increase productivity.
  • The ability to identify sales opportunities and implement new ideas, showcasing your creative and commercial flair.

How you will be rewarded

  • Flexible access to your pay via MyView PayNow.
  • Birthday leave plus 30 days holiday.
  • Generous Entertainer store toy discount.
  • High Street and leisure discounts.
  • Salary sacrifice cycle purchase scheme.
  • Retail Trust benefits including Virtual GP.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Annual profit share.
  • Life cover.

What our Supervisors say

I love working at the Entertainer as no two days are the same. A typical day in the life of a Supervisor would include managing deliveries, merchandising, pricing and finally (and most importantly!) providing excellent customer service to every customer. Interacting with children via our steps at till, the point of allowing them to play with us through in‑store demonstrations is what makes us unique and makes my role so enjoyable. Seeing children leave with a smile on their face and making memories they will take with them when growing up makes for happy, returning customers. We are all one big family at The Entertainer with just one mission to be Britain’s best loved toyshop.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy before the published closing date, should we receive sufficient applications for the role, thank you.
