About the role

Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Technical Authority – Process, based in Aberdeen. This is a long‑term PAYE contract role with a well‑established Operator.

The primary role of the Technical Authority is safeguarding technical integrity on the company’s operated assets.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure risks associated with Major Accident Hazards are fully understood and effectively managed.
  • Act as a senior subject‑matter expert and provide technical direction, introducing appropriate new technology and procedural changes.
  • Provide independent, direct and impartial feedback on the integrity status of operated assets and communicate concerns to Asset Management.
  • Give practical and pragmatic technical advice, even challenging proposed strategies in a diplomatic manner.
  • Provide input to the review of HS&E alerts when safety‑critical, both internally and externally.
  • Report to the Corporate Governance and Compliance Manager and be accountable for:
  • Setting performance standards and assurance for safety & environmental critical elements (SECEs).
  • Undertaking periodic formal technical assessments of SECE status and optimizing maintenance/assurance activities.
  • Supporting other Technical Authorities where there is overlap.
  • Maintaining awareness of other SECE impairments to oversee cumulative MAH risk.
  • Setting technical standards for both safety & environmental critical and non‑critical systems.
  • Delegating appropriate decisions to competent personnel.
  • Visible technical leadership demonstrated through offshore assessments.
  • Procedures, Technical Standards & Specifications.
  • Deviations & Technical Queries.
  • ODMS Technical documentation ownership as assigned.
  • Management of risks associated with Major Accident Hazards.
  • Assurance Implementation.
  • Non‑Standard Operations.
  • Technical Integrity / SECE audits.
  • Supporting HAZOPS, HAZIDs, LOPAs and other technical safety studies.
  • Approval of all process flow diagrams, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, PSV register, LO/LC register, hazardous area drawings and process C&E updates.
  • Authority for all process / utility system operating manuals, PSV recertification procedure, SIRPS procedure, weeps and leaks procedure and blowdown testing procedure.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered accreditation with a relevant engineering institute and/or MSc in Risk and Reliability.
  • Significant industry experience and proven track record.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in oil and gas.
  • Ability to identify and develop sound technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of associated technical/engineering disciplines e.g. process, mechanical.
  • Technical proficiency in IT programmes/systems such as Excel, Maximo, engineering software.
  • Familiarity with UK industry regulations relating to oil and gas.
  • Experience dealing with HSEx, BEIS and industry workgroups.
  • Effective relationship‑builder at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
