I'm recruiting for an established building services business looking to add an experienced Mechanical Engineer to its mobile engineering team, covering London and the Home Counties. This is a genuinely varied role covering planned maintenance, reactive breakdowns, fault finding, remedial works and mechanical installations across a commercial portfolio.Why this role stands out40,000–46,000 basic salary, depending on experience25 days' holiday + bank holidaysFully expensed company vanFuel cardCompany phoneCompany iPadNest pension1-in-8 call-out rota150 per week standby payment, paid in full via expensesCall-out attendance paid at 1.5x normal rate4-hour minimum for call-out attendance, door-to-doorA sensible approach to working hours The standard hours are 8am–5pm, but this isn't a role where you're expected to remain on site until 5pm simply because that's what's written on the contract. Depending on your work area and workload, engineers will generally finish on site around 3pm–4pm and then travel home. The business takes a practical approach to travel and understands that good engineers shouldn't be kept on site unnecessarily.What you'll be doing You'll be responsible for maintaining, fault finding and repairing a range of commercial mechanical and building services systems. Your workload will include:Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)Reactive maintenance and emergency breakdownsMechanical fault finding and diagnosisHIU servicing, breakdowns and fault findingCommercial heating and hot water systemsBoilers and associated controlsPumps and pressurisation unitsExpansion vesselsCalorifiersPlate heat exchangersWater softenersLTHW and CHW systemsAHUs and FCUsSupply and extract ventilationMotors, valves and actuatorsMechanical plant and associated pipeworkNew mechanical installationsCommissioning and testingRemedial works identified during PPM visitsYou'll also complete job sheets and service reports, provide photographs and technical recommendations where required, and liaise professionally with clients, estate managers, site teams and specialist subcontractors.What we're looking for You'll need strong experience in commercial mechanical engineering / building services and be comfortable working independently across different sites. Ideally, you'll have experience with:Commercial heating and hot water systemsBoilers, pumps and pressurisation systemsPrimary and secondary heating circuitsLTHW / CHW systemsMechanical plant roomsAHUs, FCUs and ventilationPumps, motors, valves and actuatorsPPM and reactive maintenanceMechanical fault findingRemedial works and installationsA good understanding of SFG20, manufacturer requirements, British Standards, RAMS, permit-to-work procedures and health & safety legislation is expected. Experience with plant replacement, refurbishment, pricing remedial works or coordinating subcontractors would be advantageous.The person We're looking for someone who can be trusted to get on with the job.
