Fixed term, flexible contract - July 2026 to October 2027
42.5 hours per week
£31,101 - £34,875 per annum
We are looking to recruit a Relief Hostel Manager to support our fantastic network of hostels throughout England & Wales.
In this exciting role you will be supporting a large and diverse portfolio of hostels through England & Wales. The length of relief placements and size of hostels you support will vary. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the hostels and customer experience in a relief capacity. You will also work on a range of projects as agreed with your Operations Manager.
A full driving license is required and access to own vehicle as the role will require travel throughout the network. All expenses will be paid, and accommodation where required will be provided for the duration of the relief period, this could be within the hostel accommodation, staff accommodation or could require local rental by YHA to provide accommodation nearby.

What will you be doing as a Relief Hostel Manager?
You will have responsibility for the achievement of targets across all aspects of your hostel operation, including food and beverage and will be accountable for maximising revenue whilst, at the same time, controlling expenditure.
You will have management responsibility for a team of employees and occasional volunteers.
You will also contribute to the team effort in the day-to-day operation of the hostel
You will support the Operations Manager undertaking any tasks required, e.g., housekeeping, reception, food, and beverage duties.
What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Relief Hostel Manager?
Proven experience of working within the hospitality industry
NVQ Level 3 within Customer Services, Hospitality, Tourism (desirable)
Relevant statutory certificates such as: Food Safety Level 2 Certificate.
APLH Level 2 (Award for Personal Licence Holders) Certificate (or prepared to undertake if not currently held)
Knowledge and understanding of the requirements for effective safeguarding of vulnerable guests.
Previous leadership experience, including coaching and developing others and giving feedback (desirable).
People management experience, including recruitment, induction, personal objective setting, conducting reviews and managing performance (desirable).
Excellent customer service skills, including experience of handling difficult situations.
Proven ability of managing varying pressures, including peaks in workload demands.
Numerate, with experience of cash handling, Experience of managing a budget (desirable),
Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA
Proficient IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) - experience of working with computerised booking systems is essential, This role requires weekend working on a rota basis
Ability to cook confidently and ability to train in catering duties
