This role plays a critical part in developing innovative, technically robust, and cost-effective electrical solutions that meet customer specifications and project objectives. The position requires a proactive, detail-oriented design engineer with a strong understanding of control systems design, electrical engineering principles, and industrial standards. Project Design Ownership: Lead the electrical design lifecycle for assigned projects — from initial concept development, system architecture, and detailed design, through to validation and delivery. Provide engineering input during the proposal development stage, ensuring that all proposed solutions align with customer specifications, applicable codes, and design best practices. Electrical Control System Design: Develop detailed electrical control system designs using AutoCAD Electrical, including schematic drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, fabrication drawings and interconnection schedules. Specify and select electrical components, instrumentation, and control devices based on performance, reliability, safety, and cost considerations. Bill of Materials (BOM): Generate and maintain accurate BOMs to support procurement and manufacturing activities, ensuring traceability and alignment with project deliverables. Design Validation & Compliance : Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant standards (IEC, ATEX, UL, CSA, etc.) and are validated against performance, safety, and functional requirements. Produce comprehensive design documentation and technical manuals for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) deliverables. Project Support: Support operations, manufacturing & testing teams, factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site commissioning as required. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing and test through to project completion. Contribute to the development of internal design standards, best practices, and design tools to improve engineering efficiency and consistency. HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred. Commercially aware of profit and loss impact resulting from the design solution. Minimum of 5 years in electrical design engineering within industrial, oil & gas, or petrochemical environments. Understanding of switchboards, MCCs, power distribution systems, and control panel design. Knowledge of intrinsically safe system design preferred but not essential. Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent CAD software. Practical understanding of on-site installation, commissioning, and maintenance practices. Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to balance design innovation with practical constraints. Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in every aspect of design and delivery.
