Engineer – Autonomous Systems / Defence Technology £45,000 – £50,000 per year Full Time | Permanent Location: Oxford We are supporting an early-stage deep tech company working in autonomous systems and safety-critical AI. They are building assurance technology that monitors and constrains autonomous systems in real time. The aim is to ensure systems remain within defined operational and safety limits, even in unpredictable environments. The company works with customers in defence and autonomy, including UAVs, multi-agent systems, and mission-critical AI applications. The role This is a hands-on engineering position in a small, technical team. You will work across software and systems engineering to support development of real-time assurance and monitoring technology used in autonomous platforms. The environment is fast-moving, technical, and focused on real-world autonomous systems. Key responsibilities Develop and support real-time monitoring and assurance systems Work on integration with autonomous platforms and simulation environments Test and validate system behaviour in edge cases Contribute across software and systems engineering Work closely with technical teams and stakeholders What we are looking for ~3–6 years’ engineering experience ~ Background in software, systems, electronics, robotics or similar ~ Experience working on complex technical systems or products ~ Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail ~ Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with changing priorities ~ Interest in autonomous systems, AI, or safety-critical engineering Important requirements Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) Must have the right to work in the UK What’s on offer ~£45,000 – £50,000 salary ~ Early-stage role with real ownership ~ Exposure to defence and autonomy programmes ~ Broad technical scope across software and systems ~ Direct impact on emerging autonomous safety infrastructure
