Role Overview – Manufacturing Engineer
Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with strong CNC machining and CAM programming expertise? This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering organisation on a permanent basis as they continue to expand and strengthen their precision machining capability.
As a CNC-focused Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and optimising machining processes across complex components, using advanced CNC equipment and Hypermill CAM software. Acting as a technical specialist, you will drive machining standards, tooling strategies, process efficiency and right-first-time quality across the machine shop. This is an on-site role based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, within an advanced manufacturing facility and benefiting from a 4-day working week (Mon–Thu).
Key Responsibilities – Manufacturing Engineer
Developing CNC machining processes and programs for new and existing components
Creating, modifying and optimising CNC toolpaths using Hypermill CAM
Defining machining sequences, cutting strategies and cycle-time optimisation plans
Selecting cutting tools, designing fixturing and setting machining parameters for complex parts
Producing and maintaining machining documentation, routings and detailed build instructions
Supporting CNC machinists with program prove-outs, tooling trials and problem-solving
Troubleshooting machining issues and driving root-cause resolution on the shop floor
Leading continuous-improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, rework and cycle times
Supporting the introduction and commissioning of CNC machines and new machining capability
Working with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure robust manufacturability
Ensuring compliance with quality, safety and regulatory requirements across machining processes
Key Experience & Qualifications – Manufacturing Engineer
Strong CNC machining background within a precision engineering environment
Hands-on experience using Hypermill CAM for 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining
Knowledge of cutting theory, machining methods and best-practice CNC programming
Experience with tooling selection, fixture design and process optimisation
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T
Experience using MRP/ERP systems for BOM and routing management
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills within machining environments
Proactive, collaborative communication style with a hands-on approach
Engineering/technical qualification or equivalent industry experience
