About the role
Maths Graduate - Gloucester, UK
About the Role
Ready to use your maths skills to help solve some of the energy sectors most important challenges? At EDF, Success is Personal. Youll grow your confidence, build specialist knowledge, and work on projects that support Britains energy future while helping deliver low-carbon electricity and supporting the journey to net zero.
The Opportunity
As a Maths Graduate, youll earn a salary of 37,500 per annum and begin your career at EDF in early September 2027. You'll develop technical and professional skills while building a strong foundation for a long-term technical career.
Over the course of a 16-month programme, you'll gain experience across a variety of technical placements while applying mathematical techniques to real-world challenges in the nuclear industry. Youll contribute to projects that support nuclear safety, operational performance and innovation, helping the transition towards An Electric Britain.
What Youll Experience
As a Maths Graduate at EDF, youll work on meaningful projects that contribute to the safe and reliable generation of low-carbon electricity. Youll use advanced modelling techniques, analyse complex data, and help support the UKs journey to net zero while developing valuable technical and professional skills.
You could work with advanced modelling tools such as ENIGMA to support nuclear fuel performance analysis, contribute to severe accident modelling and safety case development, or apply Finite Element Analysis techniques to assess reactor core behaviour. You may also collaborate with EDF Research and Development teams on modelling projects that support Hinkley Point C and future nuclear operations.
Throughout the programme, youll learn from experienced colleagues across multiple teams and locations. Every placement will help you broaden your knowledge, strengthen your problem-solving skills and discover where your interests can take you within EDF.
Location
Youll be based at one of our key sites #Gloucester with opportunities to rotate across locations depending on your placements. This will give you valuable insight into different parts of our business and the wide range of career opportunities available across EDF.
Most roles require between three and five days per week on site. Well provide practical and financial support to help make any placement-related relocation as smooth as possible.
Where This Programme Could Take You
Alexander joined EDFs Science and Engineering Graduate Programme in 2025. During his first year, he completed placements across Nuclear Services RPS, Nuclear Operations Fleet Engineering Governance and Oversight (FEGO) and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Programme Level 3 Systems, gaining experience in a variety of technical teams and specialist disciplines.
His placements have included writing Safety Case Documents for Hinkley Point C Instrumentation and Control Systems and modelling the degradation of Neutron Flux Detectors within the AGR fleet. These experiences have helped him build knowledge, develop competencies and gain confidence working across a complex engineering environment.
Although I joined EDF as a maths graduate and initially felt unsure about working in an engineering business, I quickly realised how valuable and transferable my skills were. The variety of placements, supportive colleagues and opportunities to ask questions have helped me grow in confidence, and Ive had real input into interesting projects that make a difference.
Who You Are
To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Radiological Protection, Hazards or a related subject. Youll also need strong communication and problem-solving skills and an interest in nuclear energy and technology.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
Please note that an Assessment Centre stage of the hiring process will take place online on 10 November 2026. Applicants must be able to attend on this date to be considered for the programme.
