We are looking for an experienced and proactive Electronic Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Poole, Dorset.
This is a hands-on role covering the full electronics development lifecycle, from initial concept and circuit design through to PCB layout, prototyping, testing and validation. You will work on a varied range of electronic products and collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical and production teams.
The role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving practical technical problems, taking ownership of designs and seeing products progress from an initial idea through to manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop analogue and digital electronic circuits to meet product and project requirements.
Produce schematic designs and PCB layouts using KiCad.
Prepare manufacturing files, including Gerbers, bills of materials and assembly documentation.
Build, prototype and test electronic assemblies.
Perform functional verification, debugging, fault-finding and design validation.
Validate designs through simulation and practical bench testing.
Work with firmware and mechanical engineers to integrate electronics into complete products.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs are practical, reliable and suitable for production.
Maintain clear design documentation, test results and revision records.
Support ongoing product development, design improvements and manufacturing processes.
Requirements
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
At least five years of hands-on experience in analogue and digital circuit design.
Strong working knowledge of KiCad, including schematic capture, PCB layout and manufacturing-file generation.
Good understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly processes and design for manufacture.
Experience using standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters and signal analysers.
Familiarity with LTspice or similar circuit-simulation software.
Experience using version-control systems.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Good attention to detail and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
