Library Assistant Driver Homecall

£13.63 per hour

36 hours per week:

8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday

Main Purpose

Under the direction of the line manager the post holder will assist in the delivery of library services, working either:

1. on a specific homecall vehicle

2. providing relief cover on the homecall service or stock delivery vans across a geographic area and if applicable on general mobiles.

The post holder will be a member of a team of front line staff providing library services to meet the needs of the community and Libraries NI priorities. The post holder will be responsible for driving, maintaining and all record keeping in relation to the legislative requirements associated with the vehicle.

The Homecall post holder will operate according to assigned routes which may be subject to review or change. S/he may be required to work at other service points in order to meet business need.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the appropriate Line Manager:

1. Assist clients to make best use of services and facilities through;

a. selecting stock for homecall clients and delivering this to their home,

b. Handling client enquiries using print and electronic resources (e.g. Books, Virtual, Library Service and the Internet),

c. Helping clients to select and use library resources and facilities (including e-resources),

d. Introducing and explaining relevant library services, rules and regulations to new and existing clients,

e. Maintaining client databases,

f. Processing requests.

2.Assist with the smooth delivery of the service through;

  • Shelving, filing and routine maintenance of materials,
  • Preparation of materials and collections for use by customers,
  • Operating the Library Management System,
  • Carrying out the routine procedures associated with the request system including inter-library loans,
  • Organising the delivery of stock to libraries, homes and individuals.

3.Play an active role within the team in ensuring that all services are provided to consistently high standards and comply with current library policy, procedures and priorities.

4.Participate in support and outreach activities as required.

5.Assist with the collation of statistics and maintenance of appropriate records.

6.Assist in the day to day routine procedures and the delivery of client focussed library services in the areas of learning, information, leisure and culture to include;

a. shelving tidying, maintaining books and other resources,

b. circulation, e.g. issue, discharge and renewal procedures for all resources,

c. operation of information communication technology relevant to the post.

7.Provide the first response to comments and complaints from the public within the guidelines of the Library services complaint procedure.

8.Record off-air broadcasting and talking newspapers where appropriate.

9.Drive library vehicles according to agreed schedules and standards.

10. To be responsible for carrying out the Daily Vehicle Checks e.g. oil, water and fuel levels, tyre pressure etc., and completion of the Daily Check Book.

Essential Criteria:

Essential

Qualifications:

1.five GCSE/GCE O levels at grades A - C including English and Maths or hold an equivalent or higher qualification and at least one years' experience of providing a face to face service to a diverse range of the public, which must include evidence of working with older people, in a customer focused environment

2.hold a full valid Driving Licence

Experience:

3.a minimum of two years' driving experience

Knowledge & Skills:

4.knowledge of legislative requirements associated with driving and maintaining vehicles

5.experience of using current Information Communication Technology (ICT) for accessing, selecting and using information

Other Requirements and Constraints:

6.be able to work a mix of mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends as required, both at base and in other service points

7.have no criminal record which would prevent working with children or vulnerable adults.
