About the role
A Vehicle Technician diagnoses faults, repairs mechanical and electrical systems, and ensures vehicles are safe and roadworthy. They work in garages, dealerships, or service centres, using modern diagnostic tools and technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform routine servicing and maintenance (oil changes, brake checks, tyre rotations)
* Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment
* Repair or replace faulty parts (engines, transmissions, suspension, exhaust systems)
* Conduct vehicle inspections and safety checks
* Carry out MOT pre-checks (UK context)
* Maintain accurate service and repair records
* Ensure all work meets manufacturer and safety standards
* Communicate issues and repair needs clearly to customers or service advisors
Skills & Requirements:
* Strong knowledge of vehicle systems (engine, electrical, braking, etc.)
* Ability to use diagnostic tools and software
* Problem-solving and attention to detail
* Good manual dexterity
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Basic IT skills for recording job details
Qualifications:
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent)
* Apprenticeship in automotive engineering (preferred)
* MOT Tester certification (advantageous in the UK)
* Valid driving licence
