About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading independent private hospital in Exeter for an experienced Director of Clinical Services (Matron). This is a senior clinical leadership role offering high visibility across the organisation and a genuine opportunity to shape standards of care and patient experience.
The hospital provides a broad range of surgical and medical services, delivered within a modern private healthcare setting. The role requires a strong clinical leader with the ability to inspire teams, strengthen governance, and drive continuous improvement across all services.
You will provide strategic and operational leadership across nursing and clinical services, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred care at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapidly understand clinical and operational challenges within the hospital and develop effective solutions
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality care across surgical and medical pathways
- Provide inspirational leadership and effective operational management across clinical services
- Act as a role model for clinical governance, compliance, and best practice
- Lead improvements in clinical standards across wards, theatres, outpatients, pharmacy, diagnostics, and associated services
- Promote a visible, accessible leadership presence for patients, relatives, and staff
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality care delivery
About You
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with substantial post-registration experience
- Proven leadership experience at a senior clinical or operational level
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, regulatory frameworks, and evidence-based practice
- Demonstrated ability to stabilise, engage, and develop clinical teams
- Experience working across multiple clinical specialties in an acute hospital setting
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills
- Passionate about delivering outstanding patient care and service quality
