Lecturer in English - GCSE & Functional Skills
Location: Staffordshire
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £30,808 - £43,835 (dependent on experience)
Start Date: ASAP / As agreed
A Staffordshire-based FE college is seeking a passionate and motivated English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive department focused on helping learners achieve key qualifications and progress into further study or employment.

The Role
You will deliver engaging and effective GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons to learners across a range of vocational areas, many of whom are resitting English to achieve a Grade 4.
Key responsibilities include:
Deliver high-quality GCSE & Functional Skills English sessions
Plan, prepare, and adapt lessons to meet a range of learner needs
Monitor and track learner progress, providing timely feedback
Support learners with confidence, engagement, and exam preparation
Implement strategies to improve attendance, retention, and achievement
Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement
Work collaboratively with support staff to ensure inclusive practice
Essential Requirements
Degree in English or a related subject
Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English
Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE/DET or equivalent) or willingness to work towards
Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
Commitment to supporting learners from diverse and challenging backgrounds
Desirable
Experience teaching within Further Education
Understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills frameworks
Experience supporting resit learners
