Collective Actions Litigation Lawyer 5+
This specialist litigation law firm with over 30 members is looking to bring in an experienced Group Litigation Solicitor. The firm specialises in collective actions either as representative actions using CPR 19.6, group litigation orders or collective proceedings in the Competition Appeal Tribunal. They undertake these cases across a wide spectrum of causes of action such as competition law, consumer law and data privacy breaches. The work and cases that the firm is currently undertaking is right at the forefront of the UK’s developing class action regime. . Their cases are all funded by litigation funding giving them the opportunity to bring cases where individual damages are low (but aggregate damages are high) or claimants do not have the ability to fund litigation. In February 2019, they launched the first stand-alone collective proceedings claims in the CAT, Justin Gutmann v First MTR South Western Trains Limited and Others; and this was one of the first claims certified under the collective action regime. They have been involved in the VW and Mercedes ‘dieselgate’ emissions claims and filed a big action against Apple in relation to iPhones. They are also looking at launching a number of other collective actions against dominant companies.
The Role
They are looking for someone to join their specialist team to assist in running collective actions. As well as being involved in all aspects of the case from correspondence to strategy you will also be involved in business development and funding activities as they continue to develop more cases. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of developing and bringing cases in some of the most rapidly developing areas of law.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Strong academics
  • 5+ PQE, ideally with some competition experience or experience of complex collective actions
  • Have excellent written, oral and drafting skills
