SEND Specialist Teacher Location: Halifax (Hybrid working) Contract: Initial 3 months (potential extension) Hours: 37 hours per week (Full-time equivalent, term-time only) Day Rate (Umbrella): £275 umbrella per day (£200 PAYE per day) Start Date: ASAP Job Overview We are recruiting a Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairments (QTVI) to join a specialist SEND Inclusion Service supporting children and young people (CYP) with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities across Halifax. This is a hybrid role, combining school-based work, remote working, and home-based planning in line with caseload demands. You will play a key role in improving educational outcomes for CYP with vision impairment and multi-sensory impairment (MSI), while supporting schools to develop inclusive, evidence-based practice. Key Responsibilities Undertake specialist assessments of CYP with SEND/VI/MSI needs Deliver specialist teaching and interventions to improve outcomes Advise, coach, and train teachers and school staff on inclusive practice Support schools to implement adaptive curriculum and pedagogy Contribute to Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and reviews Provide ongoing monitoring, coaching, and quality assurance of SEND provision Develop training resources and deliver CPD for school staff Work collaboratively with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals Support and line manage up to 3 SEND Specialist Outreach Workers Contribute to wider SEND strategy and service developmentRequirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Mandatory post-graduate qualification in Vision Impairment (QTVI) Experience working with children and young people with SEND (particularly VI/MSI) Strong knowledge of SEND legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015, Equality Act 2010) Experience using SEND assessment tools and frameworks Ability to deliver training, coaching, and specialist teaching Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills Experience working collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals Strong ICT skills and record-keeping ability Experience supporting or supervising staff (desirable but not essential) Safeguarding This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check including Children’s Barred List clearance. The postholder will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults at all times
