Prospero Teaching are recruiting for a SEN QTS Primary-Trained Teacher (Literacy Focus) to join an all-boys Secondary SEMH Specialist School in Peckham, Southeast London. This is a long-term opportunity for a resilient, creative and skilled primary-trained teacher who can deliver Primary-level curriculum and Literacy-focused lessons to secondary-aged pupils while supporting learners with social, emotional and mental health needs. Role Available · QTS Primary-Trained Teacher (Literacy Focus) · Key Stage Taught: Secondary-aged pupils (KS3-KS4) taught through a Primary-level curriculum, with a strong focus on KS1-KS2 Literacy · SEN Needs: SEMH, ASD, Behavioural Needs · Location: Peckham, Southeast London · School Type: All Boys SEMH Specialist Secondary School · Contract: Full Time, Long Term (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-3:30pm) · Start Date: ASAP · End Date: No fixed end date (potential for permanent placement) · Daily Rate: Based on your teaching scale (M1-M6) · Free parking available Immediate interviews/trials days. Key Responsibilities · Plan and deliver engaging Primary-level and Literacy-focused lessons adapted for secondary-aged SEMH learners · Teach core literacy skills including reading, phonics, handwriting, SPaG, comprehension and creative writing · Deliver a Primary curriculum approach to pupils working significantly below age-related expectations · Create differentiated long, medium and short-term planning to meet individual needs · Support pupils to make measurable progress in Reading and Writing outcomes · Implement strong behaviour management and trauma-informed strategies · Build positive, structured and trusting relationships with pupils requiring consistency · Support emotional regulation, engagement and resilience in learning · Work closely with the SENCO, behaviour teams and senior leadership · Track progress, assess attainment and monitor behaviour effectively · Contribute to planning, interventions, moderation and learning environments · Uphold safeguarding, professional standards and SEMH-focused best practice Person Specification Essential · Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) · Primary training/background with strong Literacy subject knowledge · Confident delivering Primary-level teaching within a Secondary SEN setting · Strong behaviour management skills; experience supporting SEMH pupils · Ability to plan, differentiate and adapt teaching for mixed ability learners · Resilient, patient and consistent approach to behaviour and learning · DBS on the update service · 2 references covering the last two years of your employment Desirable · Experience in SEMH, PRU or specialist SEN settings · Experience delivering targeted literacy interventions (phonics, catch-up, reading recovery) · Training in de-escalation (Team Teach beneficial but not essential) · Knowledge of trauma-informed and relational behaviour approaches · Ability to support enrichment, reading groups or literacy interventions To Apply · Email your CV: (url removed)
