About the role

?The Senior Polymer Chemist is a key technical leader within the Polymer Technology team, responsible for driving innovation in

polymer synthesis and adhesive/composite/resin technologies

. You will lead multiple research and development projects, develop new polymers, and support commercialisation and scale-up of products from laboratory through to manufacturing. Contribute to intellectual property development, mentor junior colleagues, and act as a subject matter expert in polymer & adhesive chemistry and composite resin technologies. Key Responsibilities Lead the technical delivery of R&D projects focused on polymers, adhesives, resins and composite materials.

Design, develop and optimise polymer systems and performance resin technologies for composite and structural applications.

Conduct research, analyse results and prepare technical reports to support development activities and strategic decision-making.

Manage product development activities from concept through laboratory development, scale-up and commercialisation.

Develop and implement improvements and product modifications to enhance performance, sustainability and manufacturing efficiency.

Lead technology transfer activities to ensure successful introduction of new products into manufacturing environments.

Work closely with procurement and plant teams to resolve material, production and quality challenges and support operational excellence.

Lead intellectual property activities, including patent generation, patent reviews and support of patent applications.

Collaborate with customers, suppliers, academic institutions and industry experts on development programmes and research initiatives.

Attend industry conferences, trade shows and technical forums to maintain awareness of emerging technologies, market developments and industry trends.

Mentor and support junior scientists, providing coaching, technical guidance and development opportunities.

Act as deputy to the Technology & Sustainability Manager when required.

Key Skills & Knowledge Strong technical expertise in polymer synthesis and chemistry, resin technology and industrial chemistry.

Knowledge of composite materials, structural materials and performance resin systems.

Experience in the synthesis and development of polymers and adhesive technologies

Strong understanding of product development, scale-up and commercialisation processes.

Knowledge of intellectual property management and patent generation.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.

Strong project leadership and organisational capabilities.

Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.

Understanding of regulatory, quality and HSE requirements within a chemical manufacturing environment.

Qualifications Essential: Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

Minimum 5 years' industrial experience in polymer synthesis & chemistry, resin development, adhesives or related materials science disciplines.

Desirable: PhD in Polymer Chemistry or Materials Science.

Formal project management training or qualification (e.g. PRINCE2 or equivalent).

Additional Requirements Willingness to travel occasionally for customer visits, conferences, trade shows and collaborative projects.

Full UK driving licence.

Must have the right to work in the UK and be living in the UK, sponsorship is not provided.
