The Opportunity A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a degree-qualified Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established and highly respected construction contractor based in South Manchester. The business has an excellent reputation, a strong order book and an outstanding track record of developing its people, making this an ideal opportunity for an Assistant QS looking to build their experience and progress their career within a successful construction business. The company delivers a range of social housing, apartment and mixed-use developments across South Manchester and the wider region. You will work closely with the Project Quantity Surveyor and Senior Quantity Surveyor, gaining exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of live projects. The successful candidate will ideally have at least 2 years' post-graduate experience and have covered the fundamentals of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor role, although full training and ongoing support will be provided.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is ambitious, commercially minded and looking for a long-term career with a business that genuinely invests in its people.

Key Responsibilities Working alongside the Project and Senior Quantity Surveyors, your responsibilities will include: Supporting the commercial management of live construction projects. Assisting with monthly valuations and applications for payment. Assisting with the preparation, assessment and agreement of variations. Assisting with subcontract procurement and placing subcontract orders. Preparing and assessing subcontractor payment applications. Supporting the management of subcontractor accounts through to final account. Monitoring project costs, budgets and commercial performance. Assisting with CVRs, forecasting and commercial reporting. Reviewing project progress and identifying commercial risks and opportunities. Assisting with the preparation of client and subcontractor documentation. Attending site and commercial meetings alongside senior members of the team. Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers, clients and the wider project team. Working closely with the Project Quantity Surveyor and Senior Quantity Surveyor to ensure projects are commercially controlled. Developing your commercial and contractual knowledge through hands-on project experience.

About You The successful candidate will have:A degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related construction/commercial discipline. Minimum 2 years' post-graduate Quantity Surveying experience. Experience working for a main contractor or construction business. Experience of the basic duties expected of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, including valuations, variations, subcontractor payments and procurement. Ideally, experience across social housing, apartment or mixed-use developments. Good commercial awareness and strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and organisational skills. The ability to work effectively as part of a wider commercial and project team. A proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop. The ambition to progress within a successful and established contractor. A full UK driving licence is preferred due to the site-based element of the role.You do not need to be the finished article.
