This is an opportunity for a motivated, organised and compassionate Public Family Paralegal to join a busy Family Law Department. The successful candidate will provide legal and administrative support to solicitors dealing with publicly funded family law matters, particularly care proceedings and cases involving children and vulnerable families.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical experience in public family law while working alongside experienced solicitors and other legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting solicitors with public family law and care proceedings.
- Managing and maintaining accurate and confidential client files.
- Preparing correspondence, court documents, statements and applications under supervision.
- Reviewing and organising evidence, including social services documentation, expert reports and court papers.
- Preparing court bundles and assisting with hearing preparation.
- Liaising with clients, barristers, courts, Cafcass, social workers, experts and other professionals.
- Assisting with Legal Aid applications and ensuring files comply with relevant Legal Aid requirements.
- Monitoring case deadlines and maintaining accurate records of important dates.
- Carrying out legal research where required.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- An interest in pursuing a career in family law.
- Previous experience within a legal environment, ideally within family law or care proceedings.
- An understanding of family law procedures and the court process.
- Knowledge of Legal Aid and publicly funded work is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines.
- Good IT and case-management skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
