Children and Family Worker
Key details:
- Location: City of Wakefield
- Job Type: Full-time
- Salary: £16.62 per hour
- Hours: 08:30 - 17:00
About the Role:
As a Children and Family Worker, you will partner with parents/carers and other professionals to support, guide, and care for children and their families, ensuring children can be safely cared for within their family environments.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Undertake direct work with parents/carers and children as part of an agreed plan, including individual and group work, always promoting the welfare of children.
- Provide information to colleagues to support assessment of need and decision-making.
- Observe progress towards goals and make recommendations for future work.
- Report any concerns about a child to a social worker or manager as appropriate.
- Support service users to build positive personal relationships and confidence in social situations.
- Transport and escort adults, children, and young people when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records in line with departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain and develop effective communication and cooperation with colleagues, community groups, and statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Attend and contribute to meetings in line with duties.
- Contribute to the development of high-quality services.
- Ensure health, safety, and welfare responsibilities are met for colleagues and service users.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with children or children and their families who are experiencing difficulties.
- Experience in outreach/one-to-one work with parents or carers and delivering group parenting programmes.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage own time and deal sensitively and effectively with members of the public.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with families and other professionals.
- Full driving licence and use of own vehicle for work.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, or willingness to work towards this.
